How to Select and Install Steam Trap Valves

To achieve the most ideal effect, it is necessary to have a comprehensive understanding of the working performance and characteristics of various types of steam trap valves. The proper installation of the steam trap valve has a direct impact on the normal operation of the steam trap valve and the production efficiency of the equipment. The installation of steam trap valves must comply with formal installation requirements in order to achieve the best working efficiency of the steam trap valve and equipment.

Factors to be considered for selecting the right steam trap valves
1. Select according to the usage position of the steam trap valve.
2. Select steam trap valves that meet the requirements for pressure, temperature, and material of the equipment.
3. Select the appropriate capacity of the steam trap valve based on the pressure difference and condensate discharge volume of the steam trap valve.
4. Comply with the connection dimensions, methods, and standards of the equipment.
Precautions for installing steam trap valves
1. Before installing the steam trap valve, it is necessary to use pressurized steam to clean the pipeline and remove any debris.
2. A filter should be installed in front of the steam trap valve to ensure that it is not blocked by pipeline debris, and the filter should be cleaned regularly.
3. Install valves before and after the steam trap valve for easy maintenance at any time.
4. The steam trap valve should be installed at the lowest point of the equipment outlet to timely discharge condensate and avoid steam resistance in the pipeline.
5. The direction of condensate flow should be consistent with the arrow mark installed on the steam trap valve.
6. If there is no steam trap valve installed at the lowest position of the equipment, a backflow bend (condensate lifting joint) should be provided at the lowest position of the water outlet to raise the condensate level before installing a steam trap valve to avoid steam resistance.
7. The outlet pipe of the steam trap valve should not be immersed in water. If it is immersed in water, a hole should be drilled at the bend to break the vacuum and prevent sand from being sucked.
8. Mechanical steam trap valves should be installed horizontally.
9. Steam trap valves should not be installed in series, and each equipment should be equipped with a separate steam trap valve.
10. When using a steam trap valve for drum drying (with siphon type) equipment, please indicate that use a steam trap valve with an anti-steam resistance device to avoid steam lock on the equipment.
11. Thermostatic type steam trap valves require over one meter of non-insulated supercooled pipes in front of them, and other types of steam trap valves should be located as close to the equipment as possible.
12. If there is condensate recovery after the steam trap valve, the outlet pipe of the steam trap valve should be connected to the main pipe from above the recovery main pipe to reduce back pressure and prevent backflow.
13. The condensate recovery main pipe behind the steam trap valve cannot climb a slope, which will increase the back pressure of the steam trap valve.
14. If there is condensate recovery after the steam trap valve, pipelines with different pressure should be separated for recovery.
15. Install a check valve before the condensate enters the recycling main after the steam trap valve to prevent the condensate from flowing back.
16. Install a steam trap valve on the steam pipeline, with a condensate collection well located near the radius of the main pipeline, and then use a small pipe to lead it to the steam trap valve。
17. If the mechanical steam trap valve is not used for a long time, it is necessary to remove the drain screw and drain the water inside to prevent freezing.
18. If steam leakage is found in the steam trap valve, timely discharge and clean the filter screen. Regularly inspect according to actual usage and repair any malfunctions at any time. Maintain at least once a year to remove any impurities inside.
